assignment #4

The topic I want to talk about is online dating and dangers that come with it.  As we know with new media growing day to day people are using these “online dating sites more and more” some people find the right connections and some get scammed or even sexually assaulted when meeting up or exchanging personal information that they thought was safe.  This one article talks about the dangers “Prosecutors say a Philadelphia nursing student was conning women on match.com. He was convicted this week of assault, but the accusations don't end there. His victims, described as attractive, ambitious professionals say their lives will never be the same”. The effect it can have on people will make them feel very unsafe and have a hard time “trusting anybody every again” this is why people need to know the danger online dating has and most people aren’t aware of that because they are to busy searching for people to meet.  This one person said that “"Mentally, it just about broke me to think that I had been so naive, when I don't consider myself to be a very naive person," she said. "And of course, I was worried about my safety." The effect it can have will make you feel nervous about almost everything you do.  Another thing is that "Victims are victims because somebody is looking to exploit their weakness," so if somebody see’s that they can take advantage of you because you are too nice, they will try to take everything that you have and maybe your life “it’s a gamble”.  The last thing you need to do when going online is give any personal information , take it slow, don’t always believe what people say, and always stay “on point and never let your guard down” always remember that everything that is too good to be true usually isn’t.

MySpace....

The form of new media that I picked is “MySpace”, due to the big impact it had when it first came out and everybody was using it.  I think it should be considered more than just a smaller potato due to the impact that it had “in its time” with letting you create your own page, make bulletin boards, create a music page and also talk to your friends with private messages. MySpace has made “Communicating with friends and loved ones has never been easier” before MySpace communication online has not been that easy to use or used very “consistent”.  Before MySpace “people was never able to leave personal comments and see how people are doing in just a few seconds; a big step up from snail mail” this is why you cannot forget about this “kind of media” because it made the way for the ideas of the “new media technology” by keeping MySpace around it lets everybody knows where it all started from. The whole idea for MySpace was to “strengthen ties with friends and family, you can maintain and better current friendships by using profile information to relate or identify. You can even find out information about fellow-students or co-workers and make new friends much more easily than ever” this is something that you can never forget about and these are the main reasons why people should still use it more “even though it is not as popular as it used to be.

1. You can put information about yourself when creating your page “what you like etc.”

2. It allows you to start group chats post pictures, music, and look on other people pages.

3. MySpace allows you to search and find people in different state, cities and also is one of the first ways people used to do online dating “by viewing people pages or pictures”.

4. This is how friends used to keep in contact, “messaging, post comments on page.

With all the good MySpace has to offer there should be no other reason why it would disappear “I think is on the verge of a major comeback” due to the unhappy people that are using the new media that is around know.  Most people would rather go back to the “basics” instead of being forced to deal with the new media “and the problems it can or may cause to certain people” if it wasn’t for MySpace people would be lost when it comes to using “these new media”.  This is what made the way for the creation for “more new media” and if MySpace was not a success there wouldn’t be “as many new media for people to used due to the success rate”.

Ten things

The top ten things concerning new media that people using should be aware about.

1.       Identity theft

2.       world star hip hop

3.        YouTube

4.        Online dating

5.        Buying car

6.        Fraudulent items sold online

7.       Pay Pal

8.       Gps on your cell phone

9.       Advertising

10.   Effects of spam

Identity theft affects “million people each year” by stealing their money, name and personal information this is due to many people not being aware of their “protection” when doing any type of transaction online.  All they need is basic information “full name, date of birth, home town, relationship, school locations, pet name, interests and hobbies” this is something that will continue to grow if people aren’t knowledgeable of how easy it is.  This is something that gives people a deferent look at how easy this is done due to the facts of how often this happens and it continues to grow.  It is as easy as filling an application for a credit card or job and the page is unsecure, now all your information you put down is stolen for somebody to use.

World star hip hop is a cite that people upload any kind of footage ”fights violence “but know police are using this cite to track down people who are committing these vicious acts.  This cite has allowed the cops to watch the videos as the crimes are “in play” and be able to “narrow out the suspect” this has helped the cops put a lot of people in jail for doing these crimes and then posting them online for other peoples entertainment.  I think this cite is something you should be aware off because how graphical and violent it can get.  It also informs people to pay attention to their surroundings and let them know that these violent attacks can happen “anywhere anyplace anytime”

YouTube is the trend that everybody is using to get recognized from almost anything, this helps people build a larger fan base and this is something that is positive that people should be aware of.  It gives you the opportunity to “broadcast yourself “so whoever is viewing can share there “comment” on your page, whether they “like it or dislike”.  This something that a lot of people should be aware of and most people don’t even know that they can also make money by using “original materials” which can also help you start a business or even your own “show” this is what is impacting the new generation to be different and think of new ideas every day. http://www.teenink.com/college_guide/college_essays/article/174139/The-Impact-of-YouTube-on-Popular-Culture/

Online dating is becoming more popular as we may know it, the positives is that you can “search and find people who match the criteria you are looking for” plus you can do this anytime of the day.  You won’t have to worry about being nervous when talking online or “timid” due to the lack of conversation; this allows you to get the chance “to say what you really want to say without any regrets.  When dating online you don’t have to worry if somebody will talk to you because there are “billions of people meeting someone that fits your qualifications.  When entering an online dating cites you have to be aware of sex offenders, this allows them to “operate without being identified with fake profile when meeting and is a “perfect target for them.  I think this is something everybody should be on the “look out for” due to the option of browsing to see who fits you.

Buying cars online is the easiest scam going on that many people are not aware of because everybody is “looking the cheapest price” but we all know it is sometimes too good to be true.  When buying a car online they say this is the “oldest trick in scam artist’s playbook” this scam has net more than”3 million” buying selling people cars on a fake automobile cites that do not exist.  This is something many people should be aware about before they buy a car that they have not seen in person or even test driven to see if it works properly and this happens when “buyers want good deals” without even knowing if its real or not.  By informing people about automobile scams it makes everybody think twice before they decide to buy any car online without the proper information.

There are fraudulent items purchased everyday online and most people won’t even know it until the item has arrived.  This happens when people search around for the cheapest price and a scammer is usually the one selling it, but there whole idea is to “steal your payment card or personal information” some may just take your money.  Most cites tend to “lure” you in with the low price or auction, thinking you are actually getting the item you are bidding on when it’s just a pic of something else “copied on their cite” know you are stuck with something that is not what was described when you purchased it.  By informing society about this ongoing event, to keeps people aware of the items that they are getting ready to purchase by doing a deeper search on the “cite and item they are selling by looking at the reviews”.

PayPal is the best secure way to pay for items online without having your information stolen and is well trusted among most cites for people who do not want to share their information.  It also allows “anyone to transfer or send money to anyone with an e-mail address, whether or not they have a PayPal account” This is a free account you can open up for secure business transaction or money sending transactions, PayPal has “over !00 million active accounts in 190 markets worldwide”.  Everybody should know about this because this can help identity theft stop by giving the scammers less information to use to steal your information.  PayPal is something worth looking into to have if you don’t feel comfortable giving your card information online for every purchase you make.

Another thing that is affecting people is the gps on your smartphone, which can allow people to track your everyday “movement” and also lead to somebody “stalking you” but most people don’t even know that this feature is on when “taking and uploading pictures or even tweeting”.  Most people should know about their smartphone features and should be aware at all time when logging on “Malicious web sites or even track your location on a map” this helps give crooks you locations.  This is one the easiest ways to get your house robbed and not even be able to know how they knew you were not home.  With everybody purchasing all this new technology they should at least know how to work the phone or read the instruction to keep the fully protected from stalkers and criminal.

Advertising is the biggest thing that most companies use to get the attention of oncoming buyers and you should always be aware because it can “run all day on TV, radio to get your attention” this is how they drill it in your head.  It is used for entertainment and most “free media channel have a cost” that’s why they are creating all types to match or see what the “consumer’s need where there has been none before, or turning luxuries into necessities.  It has made people think that they really need the specific item to make them feel good and this why most people should be aware of how easy it is to be lured in.
The effects of spam is that you can get all type of useless information that you don't need or never requested and it gets very annoying .  With spam it can bring a "serious security threat" it can also heart the reputation of your business.  When dealing with spam it is considered "junk mail" but it stacks up everyday with e-mails that have no use just scams or malware that can heart your computer .  This is one of the easiest ways to get your information stole by opening these kinds of e-mail for any offers that are not  "real".  Spam  e-mails continue to grow an many people are not aware of the risk you can take by opening these files in your inbox, that is "why it is important to make sure you have the necessary solutions in place to protect and prevent spam".  Most people  need to know threat this is very important when using new media and everybody should be on the "look out" for hazardous spam files in there inbox.

http://www.sitepronews.com/2010/08/19/the-effect-of-spam-on-business/

Examples

When using new media people tend to fill out all kinds of job application not knowing it could be a unsecure cite that can take your information without you knowing or if you open up spam files it can take the information that you have used on your computer and also get your personal information. When dealing with cites like "World Star Hip Hop and YouTube" you have to be aware of somebody getting "footage of you and loading it online whether it's good or bad, so with this kind of new media you have to be aware of your surroundings.  Online dating can help people build there "self esteem" by helping them interact with other people online if they have problems doing it "face too face" which is something people can benefit from. Buying cars and purchasing items online is the easiest way to get scammed, most people go the quickest way to find anything which is online due to "easy access" the price is usually "way too low to believe" but people will always take a risk if they think they can save a few dollars and this is why this will continue to happen if you do not do your research before purchase.  This is why people who do research look for "car fax and reviews to see how other people view this page" which will usually help you make your decision.  Pay Pal helps people feel secure when purchasing anything, If you are on a cite that you don't trust and don't want to have the risk of getting your information stolen.  This helps make all your transactions are secure and can also you the fastest refund instead of waiting on the seller to send your money back.  Smartphones with the "gps" feature should always be constantly check so nobody can track your every move, like if you go on vacation and take pictures and upload them with your "gps on" whoever can go break in your house. The brief information of "they know were you are at makes it a easy job for them without getting caught " and this is something everybody should be aware of. When advertising you can be "fooled" due to the small print that nobody can read or they keep showing the same advertisement  and it gets stuck in your head.  For instants they advertise things that people  "think they have too have it" whether its a Benz commercial, new iPhone, they drill it in people heads that they must have this or "they will be behind" and people will tend to spend their last just to have it.  So you should always be prepared to pay very close attention on new media and the technology they are showing that have people "going crazy" all these things is something that is very important when using new media and what people should be aware of......

Negative and positive effects that facebook has on society

Negatives

The negative effects that Facebook has on society are that it can make people depress and it can negatively impact learning.  The way it makes people feel depress is when they constantly go there and    hope that people are putting comments on their post or liking it.  For instants the more people get the Lonelier more they would go online hoping for something to happen, as quoted by Ethan Kross “Research into the alienating nature of the Internet—and Facebook in particular—supports Kross’s conclusion. In 1998, Robert Kraut, a researcher at Carnegie Mellon University, found that the more people used the Web, the lonelier and more depressed they felt. After people went online for the first time, their sense of happiness and social connectedness dropped, over one to two years, as a function of how often they used the Internet”.  This helps me to believe that Facebook has a psychological effect depending on the person’s lifestyle, by this I mean if that person has no friends or nothing to do with themselves they will also end up being depressed due to Facebook.

·         September 10, 2013How Facebook Makes Us Unhappy Posted by Maria Konnikova

The other effect Facebook can have on people is that it can have a big negative impact on kids.  Most kids today have problems making friends and Facebook helps them be more antisocial because you are posting comments and requesting friends you do not know majority of the people you meet.  “Teens who use Facebook more often show more narcissistic tendencies while young adults who have a strong Facebook presence show more signs of other psychological disorders, including antisocial behaviors, mania and aggressive tendencies”.  This makes kids be more “shy” when it comes to talking to people in the real world and this is a big problem that we have to focus on.  If this were to continue it would be very hard for anybody to start a conversation or even ask a simple question without somebody looking at them strange.

·         August 6, 2011 WASHINGTON—Social media Social Networking’s Good and Bad Impacts on Kids

Positives

Positive affects Facebook has is that it allows you with business networking and helps you plan events. When doing business networking on Facebook it allows you to post business plans, ideas and general thoughts if you need some advice or help.   You can make a fan page!  Quoted “Facebook®, a social networking website located at http://www.facebook.com/, has recently gained popularity as an online tool to help market businesses. Accessible via the Web or the latest generation of smart cell phones and PDAs, Facebook's mission is to give people the power to share ideas and make the world more open and connected” “Because of the large number of users visiting this social platform, many businesses have turned to Facebook as a way to connect to potential customers. This can be done with a Facebook Fan page”.  This helps anybody who is trying to get their business started or just thinking of new ideas and want to see what the people think and this will lets you know what “the people or fans like or think can be improved or changed”.

The other biggest thing that people are using Facebook for is party promoting/ event planning which is big.  By promoting on Facebook you save time, money and you can post as many invitations you want.  This helps you save money by not having to buy a lot of flyers and also getting the people that you want to come. You save more money this way because all you got to do is send invites and this will let you know from the start who is planning on going before you decide to spend more unnecessary money.  “Social media have been a revolution in how people plan events and communicate with one another. Rather than talking to their friends in person, they can post a comment about their life. The revolution of social media has allowed people to rekindle friendships, make new friends and gain new interests”.  That’s why Facebook  has a positive effect  on event planning/ party promoting due to the easy access  and instant communication with one another whether it be business or just a regular conversation its very helpful.

·         What Are the Positive & Negative Effects of Using Technology to Communicate?

·         by Shannon Webster, Demand Media, Social media paragraph.

This helps me to believe that the positives outweigh the negatives due to the advantages you can use from Facebook, which is advice, ideas, business and general conversation .  Overall to me it is suppose to be used for social thing that's why they call it social network but people tend to find a "comfort zone" and most people use it for other things that they find interested to them and that's why it can a big effect on society.

blogg 2

I think the Internet technology we use today has its ups and downs and can be very helpful depending on your interest. For instant wifi allows anybody to get a quick connection without having to worry about hooking ups wires for a connections, which gives you instant access to online. This is very popular for people doing business deals or even playing videos games online with there friends.  My disagreeing point would be is that it makes people lazy due to instant access to use it on a daily basis for simple things such as chatting, social network and other useless things. This makes most people depend on this daily.  To me its a 70 to 30 percent good improvement on how we are able to use our new technology for resentful things instead of negative useless things.

The good advantages of the Internet is that it allows you to do things without leaving your house to do, for instant you can shop, conversant and even look for a job faster then going around to see who's hiring. This is might be a benifite to many people who don't like to wait on line or traffic.
Plus many you can have a real live conversation or video chat without using the phone, which makes this a good because you dont even need to know there number.

The disadvantages is the quality of picture the connection might drag slowly and might be alot of dropped connections. Plus you will have to always pay for a good quality service that will work perfect or you can go the cheap route and "pay for what you get".
When shopping online you might recieve the wrong item and have to go threw the long process to recieve the item you thought you purchaed.

Advantages of video chat

1. Significant Travel Savings

The constant climb of air travel prices barely seems like news anymore, and smart organizations are finding alternatives. Not only is video conferencing a direct replacement for many in-person business trips, but because there is virtually no cost to add additional key employees to a virtual meeting, you can easily bring the right team together.

Disadvantages

2. Quality Systems are Not Free

Some perceive conferencing systems to be expensive, but this is no longer true. In the early days, organizations installed fully-outfitted central meeting rooms with cameras, lighting and hardware. Today, high quality video conferencing is possible via cloud-based systems, and the need for expensive end-point hardware has dropped significantly. Many organizations now install a centralized gateway that connects participants via a broadband network. While this installation does entail some up-front costs, it’s much lower than before, saves on bandwidth, and makes video conferencing much more widely available within an organization
