assignment #4

The topic I want to talk about is online dating and dangers that come with it.  As we know with new media growing day to day people are using these “online dating sites more and more” some people find the right connections and some get scammed or even sexually assaulted when meeting up or exchanging personal information that they thought was safe.  This one article talks about the dangers “Prosecutors say a Philadelphia nursing student was conning women on match.com. He was convicted this week of assault, but the accusations don't end there. His victims, described as attractive, ambitious professionals say their lives will never be the same”. The effect it can have on people will make them feel very unsafe and have a hard time “trusting anybody every again” this is why people need to know the danger online dating has and most people aren’t aware of that because they are to busy searching for people to meet.  This one person said that “"Mentally, it just about broke me to think that I had been so naive, when I don't consider myself to be a very naive person," she said. "And of course, I was worried about my safety." The effect it can have will make you feel nervous about almost everything you do.  Another thing is that "Victims are victims because somebody is looking to exploit their weakness," so if somebody see’s that they can take advantage of you because you are too nice, they will try to take everything that you have and maybe your life “it’s a gamble”.  The last thing you need to do when going online is give any personal information , take it slow, don’t always believe what people say, and always stay “on point and never let your guard down” always remember that everything that is too good to be true usually isn’t.

MySpace....

The form of new media that I picked is “MySpace”, due to the big impact it had when it first came out and everybody was using it.  I think it should be considered more than just a smaller potato due to the impact that it had “in its time” with letting you create your own page, make bulletin boards, create a music page and also talk to your friends with private messages. MySpace has made “Communicating with friends and loved ones has never been easier” before MySpace communication online has not been that easy to use or used very “consistent”.  Before MySpace “people was never able to leave personal comments and see how people are doing in just a few seconds; a big step up from snail mail” this is why you cannot forget about this “kind of media” because it made the way for the ideas of the “new media technology” by keeping MySpace around it lets everybody knows where it all started from. The whole idea for MySpace was to “strengthen ties with friends and family, you can maintain and better current friendships by using profile information to relate or identify. You can even find out information about fellow-students or co-workers and make new friends much more easily than ever” this is something that you can never forget about and these are the main reasons why people should still use it more “even though it is not as popular as it used to be.

1. You can put information about yourself when creating your page “what you like etc.”

2. It allows you to start group chats post pictures, music, and look on other people pages.

3. MySpace allows you to search and find people in different state, cities and also is one of the first ways people used to do online dating “by viewing people pages or pictures”.

4. This is how friends used to keep in contact, “messaging, post comments on page.

With all the good MySpace has to offer there should be no other reason why it would disappear “I think is on the verge of a major comeback” due to the unhappy people that are using the new media that is around know.  Most people would rather go back to the “basics” instead of being forced to deal with the new media “and the problems it can or may cause to certain people” if it wasn’t for MySpace people would be lost when it comes to using “these new media”.  This is what made the way for the creation for “more new media” and if MySpace was not a success there wouldn’t be “as many new media for people to used due to the success rate”.
